New 2nd Sata Hard Drive Ssd Hdd Caddy for Asus N550jv N750jv replace Gu71n Uj8c2

Does the job, but got stuck when I tried to remove it from an Asus GL551VW. It was extremely hard to remove it afterwards, almost damaged the laptop. Should include a removal tool, instead of a screwdriver that everyone has.

I bought this for my N550JK. I bought the one with the SSD already installed instead of the HDD. My Optical drive wasn't able to be detected anymore, not sure if it was due to my Windows 10 upgrade or something else. I noticed that Asus did a bad job of putting the cable in the optical drive. It gets caught and folded up when the drawer opens and closes. Anyway, I removed the optical drive pretty easily (take back of cmputer off and a few more screws to remove optical drive.) you will need a Torx screwdriver kit. The caddy comes with a little Phillips screwdriver that is helpful for the rest. I didn't know if the SATA drive was still good and I didn't want to spend a lot of money if the port was bad so for $39.99 I bought the PNY CS1311 SSD 2.5" SATA 6gb/s. It fit perfectly into the Caddy. I mean perfectly .. someone did some very careful measurement, whoever designed this. I tightened that into the caddy. I also found a little "switch" on the corner of the caddy that I moved into the lock position. NO instructions told me about this and I'm not sure it matters though. The caddy fits PERFECTly into the Asus N550jk slot. push it hard to fit iinto place, then screw everything back in, including the bar over it that holds it in place. Now the tricky part, take the bezel off your old CD-ROM (there is a little tab that you can press with a screwdriver.. pull it off carefully.) Then remove the strip that says 'DVD " from the caddy. replace it with the bezel from the CD-ROm tray. Once again, it fits PERFECTLY and looks beautiful, it's better in fact than the original. OK, next you have to go to "Disk managment" and format the SSD to make it show up with File Explorer. My original SSD was getting full, I noticed 50 GB of itunes music so I just copied it over the new SSD and deleted it off the D drive. I then linked itunes to the new location. I noticed that the music plays from itunes very quickly and syncs to iphone much faster actually than the SSD that came with the computer!

I bought this because on the chance that it would work with my Asus GL551LM. One answered question suggested it did but I was not entirely clear since the specs do not say so. The good news is it does fit but it is not perfect. The outer casing is made of plastic and slightly thicker than the original bay enclosure. This makes it a VERY tight fit. If you plan on changing it out frequently, you may need to find some way of thining the plastic surface to make it easier. Once it was in, the drive was automatically recognized and worked with no issues. The attached photo shows it installed. You lose the natural bevel of the laptop case but gain a drive activity light for the second drive. 4 stars vice 5 because the fit is so tight. Other than that I would give it 5 stars.

This review is more of what it isn't - it's NOT a fit for ASUS n56jn-eb71. Turns out the N56JN is a 12.7mm, this is 9mm - doesn't not work. Unfortunately my question to the forum suggested it would work, which is why I purchased it. Hopefully others will not make the same mistake as I did.

This did not work for my N550JK. It seemed to be OK at first after installation but upon reboot the drive was not recognized by BIOS, Windows 10 or Ubuntu. I tried different hard drives to make sure it wasn't the drive, same result. The hard drives work fine in a USB3 external enclosure.

Perfect fit in my N550JV touchscreen laptop. I put the magnetic drive in this and put bezel from cd drive on the front and ssd where and drive was... This thing fit perfect and has not had any issue.

Amazing product. Fits very well, super easy to install. The only downside is that the external front that was supposed to look like an optical tray, in reality does not fit in a Asus n550jv (the tray stays too inward for that). However, I was able to take the piece that comes with the optical tray itself and put over the caddy. Now the laptop has two hard drives and looks like it was not changed at all.

Works as expected. Holds a 2.5" hard drive in the same location as the OE DVD drive. When installing: The angled outer bezel will fit with only minor finagling. Be careful not to break the thin plastic nibs, and remove the sticky plastic protective covering on the bottom side of the caddy. Also, make sure the 4 screws seat inside the holes in your drive. I used the bracket on the original drive to secure the new caddy to the laptop motherboard. Otherwise, a very simple replacement that doubled my storage space.
