Great food at a great price
We have been trying to get our Boston Terrier’s weight down a bit for over a year but he just kept gaining weight and was really gassy on the Hills Science Diet formula our (previous) vet recommended and didn’t know what to do. I decided to research myself and came across this brand which came highly recommended by the Dog Food Advisor. It is full of great, healthy ingredients with one of the lowest fat contents of any dry food, as well as very little filler. Our chunky boy absolutely LOVES this stuff! He is very picky but went right at this every day, while we slowly switched him over. It’s been 3 weeks and he has already lost almost a full lb and, even more importantly, as any Boston Terrier owner will know, it doesn’t upset his stomach or cause gas!! Hallelujah!! His poops are solid, he is much less gassy and loves it. Couldn’t be happier, especially at this price point. He is now down to 28.1lbs and we fully expect him to continue to lose at a healthy pace on this brand of food. The only downside is this food does get a bit crumbly/powdery, especially near the bottom of the bag but the pups don’t seem to mind at all. We will usually mix with a little bit of Weruva Double Dip or Goldie Lox wet food (low fat and high quality as well) and they eat every crumb. Please remember, it is very important to switch your fur babies over to a new food slowly or they will have gastrointestinal issues. Take your time with it and plan it out so you don’t run out of the old before you transition them over completely to the new food. I see lots of comments about gastric issues but if you switch them over slowly, you won’t have this problem. Highly recommend!

Must have for a low-fat kibble (pancreatitis dog here)
My 8-year-old pup developed pancreatitis and suddenly lost a LOT of weight in a short amount of time, to the point where we weren't even sure if she was going to make it. After a number of expensive vet visits she was finally diagnosed and also must take (spendy) enzyme tabs with each meal and be on a low fat diet with smaller meals throughout the day. We're often low on income, but I love my dog so this is worth it. Earlier in her life when I had more money she ate Taste of the Wild, but life situations changed and she had been eating cheap grocery store brands for the past 4 years before becoming sick. I did a fair amount of research and this is the most quality low fat brand I found that works best for our budget and my dog. She LOVES this stuff and it's also easily accessible via Amazon for my location. The improvement with her pancreatic problems have been night and day after buying this. She's gained back her weight and our other dog also enjoys this brand (same age with no known health problems but she was getting chunky anyways, ha). I'm pleased that the first brand I tried was this and that the pups actually enjoy it, so much so that I've opted for subscribe-and-save and I NEVER do that. If you're in an emergency bind like I was, try it. It's generally affordable and worth the world if you love your dog with specific needs.

Works for my dog with pancreatitis
Great value dog food with the low fat content. I switched my two dogs to this after we had issues with pancreatitis from one dog. With this diet we have had no reoccurring issues and both dogs eat it happily.

May go back to Taste of the Wild..
My three dogs have been eating Taste of the Wild for over two years with me changing the flavor every month and they seem to do well on it. However, I have been looking for an alternative to TOTW that is comparable in quality, but that would be a little easier on my budget. My Chiuahua and Beagle seem to enjoy and eat the Eagle Pack fine, but they'll eat any thing and basically have iron stomaches. My Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix on the other hand is a picky eater. She has already lost interest in the food after just one month. I have also noticed that she has had very bad gas lately. My husband started transitioning the dogs to Eagle Pack while I was away last month and says he hasn't noticed if she has been having gas the whole time. 😣 Her stool look normal at least, which is a positive. Since I have another bag on the way as I write this, I am going to give it another month and see if her gas goes away or if it is in fact the Eagle Pack. In general the food seems good. The size of the kibble is about the same as TOTW. Te texture does appears to be a little drier, but that could be due to the "reduced fat" formula we are trying now. The order on it's way is one of the regular formulas, so I will be able to compare them once it arrives. At this time I can't recommend it, but I also wouldn't discount it as an alternative to any of the more expensive and mainstream holistic foods currently on the market.

Great tasting low-fat dog food
We have an Anatolian Shepherd a very large dog giant breed. His weight was up to around 175 and he was diagnosed with kylo thorax which is very dangerous condition and he needed a diet badly. We switched to this low fat food for him in the hopes that he would lose weight. We add homemade non-fat food such as squash pumpkin pe as carrots etc and mix it with this food. He likes the flavor very much and eats around 5 to 6 cups a day. He has lost a huge amount of weight from using this method and this dog food to trim down. Much healthier now than he was 6 months ago. The flavor is good he likes it and we will be sticking with it.

Non-picky dog dislikes it
My Jack / Beagle mix has gotten overweight (one reason is a low thyroid). She has always had a voracious appetite and truly eats almost anything. She has never NOT inhaled her food, no matter what type of dog food we have gotten her. This food however, she turns her nose up at it and even spits it out. I was shocked when she refused to eat it. Reluctantly she eats a little bit at a time these days because we offer nothing else. And she has had ongoing stomach distress, which I can only logically link to this food. She spends a lot of time eating grasss, which she rarely ever did before. It is disappointing. I'm sure it is good quality, but this doggy says no thank you. The upside is she has been steadily losing weight. LOL. We will be switching food soon. Probably back to Iams or Purina.

I think this is one of the better budget dog foods Canadians can buy. I give my GSD mix this and he loves it ( for the most part). It's affordable yet the ingredients aren't trash like other products. I feel comfortable feeding my dog this stuff. He's been on it for a while now and I don't see any issues at all.

These were a very good deal when I got them. The product is just what it says on the tin - low fat dog food. It's very obvious when you open it - the kibble is light brown and very dry to the touch. Since I was feeding it to my dog in winter, I supplemented it with some cooking oil to make sure the dog got enough fat. Even at the normal (and reasonable) price, this is a good quality dog food. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy it on sale.
