has anyone flipped this upside down and used it as a sanding platform? and moved the object you're sanding in relation to the sander? is it stable?

I used my workmate bench to clamp the sander into place and use it upside down, locking the unit into the "on" position. It wasn't totally horizontal, but worked like a charm and exceeded my expectations. That said, the sander is super noisy, so doing this for an extended period of time drew some piercing looks from my neighbors.

How noisy is the unit, and how well does the dust bag work?

It's not too noisy. I'd say it's medium-low on the noise scale. And if you're using the sander for a large project, it'll have to be constantly emptied. The bag is on the smaller side.

Im looking to try a new hobby. Would this sander work to refinish a wooden table?

Depends on how big the table is. This sander is designed to remove a lot of wood. If the table has a wood veneer, you will want to use a less powerful sander.

What size is the sand belt

Actually, there are three sizes which can be chosen before you add it to your cart, at least when ordering from Amazon (I'm using the app so I don't know where it is on the web page, but in the Amazon app, there is a popup menu right below the product photo, where you choose your size). The sizes are: ½x18" 3x18" 3x21"
